FOSSFA Launches National and Regional Liaisons

After many months of discussion, negotiations and considerations, the council of the Free Software and Open Source Foundation for Africa has finally given a green light to a very important shift in the organisational structure of the Foundation. Beginning 2011, the Foundation shall implement Liaisons. They may be national or regional.

Going by the document released by the FOSSFA secretariat:

* The person shall evaluate all membership applications within their country or sub-region, and make appropriate recommendations to the FOSSFA Council.

* Where necessary He/she may be appointed as the FOSSFA Liaison to all country/sub-regional members

* The person may represent FOSSFA in all events their country/sub-region upon approval by FOSSFA Executives.

* He/She shall be the main FOSSFA contact in terms of FOSS related information and event within a country and sub-region.

* The person may be appointed as one to collect all FOSSFA related fees on behalf of the organization subject to the approval by the FOSSFA Council.

* The person may upon invitation by the secretariat join meetings relating to all the responsibilities listed above and as deemed fit by the FOSSFA Secretariat.

* In the event that any such activities listed may require reimbursement the secretariat must be informed as soon as possible before activities are carried out.

The FOSSFA council has expressed its high expectations from the Liaisons and also wishes all the applicants who shall be approved great luck and support in their new duties.
