Call for Internet Governance Forum Core Team in West Africa
The Free Software and Open Source Foundation for Africa (FOSSFA), the Association for Progressive Communications (APC) and other partners, with support from the Open Society Institute of West Africa (OSIWA) is launching the West Africa Internet Governance Forum.
Terms of Reference for West African IGF Consortium Group
Background
The following is the terms of reference for the key members of the consortium group of organizations who will be contributing to the development and organization of the 2010 West African Regional Internet Governance Forum. The Consortium is comprised of members and organizations from the seven target countries (Senegal, Ghana, Nigeria, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Cote d'Ivoire and Cameroon) as well as the convening organizations. The document outlines the objectives of the consortium and member responsibilities. You are free to apply for any other country that may not be listed as a target country.
Project objectives
1. To facilitate Internet policy discussions on a multi-stakeholder platform for issues relating to the development and the governance of the Internet in West Africa.
2. To increase awareness of Internet governance issues in West Africa
3. To facilitate the participation of a broad range of West African stakeholders in the IGF process.
4. To create an opportunity for West Africans to engage in/contribute towards discussions regarding spam, Internet and Security, and other IGF related issues at the global Internet Governance Forum.
5. To create a systematic, bottom up, national, regional and global policy dialogue process in West Africa.
Responsibilities – Activities
• Create National Internet Governance Policy dialogue spaces in your country
• Facilitate online moderated discussions platforms for asymmetric but on going live debates on Internet governance issues .
• Coordinate and synchronise national research issues for presentation at regional forum
• Organise and hold one national discussion forum
• Participate in the Regional Forum
• Participate in the Lithuania IGF
Responsibilities – Communication
• Be responsive over email and the group mailing list
• Inform other members of the consortium of local developments and respond to their queries
• Engage other local stakeholders in the forum process
