Call for applications: WAIGF Web Manager

The West African Internet Governance Forum (WAIGF)project aims to facilitate Internet policy discussions on a multi-stakeholder platform for issues relating to the development and governance of Internet in West Africa.

The project aims to facilitate the participation of a broad range of West African stakeholders in the IGF process, create an opportunity for West Africans to engage in/contribute towards discussions regarding spam, Internet and Security, and other IGF related issues at the global Internet Governance Forum

Last but not least this project aims to create a systematic, bottom up,national, regional and global policy dialogue process in West Africa.

The WAIGF project is looking for a Web Manager.

Scope

Reporting to FOSSFA or any designated WAIGF partner, and functionally to the WAIGF consortium the incumbent designs, produces and maintains a bi-lingual regional WAIGF website with country specific content.

Primary responsibilities

*Create design prototypes, including graphic design, site navigation, and layout of content, for the West African Internet Governance Forum regional website with country specific content
*Ensure that the layout of the content is accessible and logical; recommend improvements if necessary.
* Create visual concepts that match the content and the image wanted by the clients but that fit in the schools global image; ensure that the WAIGF regional site is easy to navigate.
* Build website using technologies that conform to international standards and make sure that they are universally accessible.

* Perform maintenance and updates to the WAIGF website when requested by the WAIGF consortium through FOSSFA.

* Set up and manage web usage statistics software for the WAIGF website and constantly report and update relevant stakeholders on web statistics
* Disseminate online country based survey through the WAIGF website
* Use social media and build communities of social networks on the site
* Link the regional WAIGF website to other IGF sites
* Engage in communicating key aspects of the West African process and updating such on the site

Requirements

* Experience in web design, of which a minimum of one year producing table-less, XHTML,
standards-compliant cross browser.
* Experience working in an NGO environment, particularly in a virtual setting, highly desirable.
* Advanced knowledge of XHTML, CSS, and of digital imaging and illustration with Adobe Photoshop, QuarkXPress and Illustrator with formal training an asset.
* Knowledge of JavaScript, CSS, PHP and dynamic HTML; experience with Macromedia Flash.
* Knowledge and demonstrated experience with cross-browser and cross-platform issues (IE, Firefox, Safari, etc.)
* Very good spoken and written English and French
* Attention to detail, hardworking, and creativity in problem-solving.
* Ability to work in a team and to communicate in a clear way.
* Superior knowledge of current web-design trends and techniques, a strong online portfolio displaying user-centred design, and experience with web database solutions definite assets
* Own computer and reliable internet connection.
* Incumbent will work from their base

Duration of the contract:
12 Months

Incumbent to start immediately.
